VodoTech, the company reading water meters for the customers of SmVaK Ostrava, changes its preferred method of water consumption checks in connection to the current situation

Ostrava, 17 March 2020 – VodoTech is physically reading water meters with their online terminals for Severomoravské vodovody a kanalizace Ostrava mostly in the following districts: Nový Jičín, Opava, Karviná, Frýdek-Místek and in the peripheries of the Ostrava district. Due to the spread of the novel coronavirus in the Czech Republic, the company has taken preventive measures and decided to suspend physical water meter readings in households; the company prefers other options to report drinking water consumption.

“As a preventive measure in view of minimizing potential risks, we have decided that our employees will not enter the households of the water company customers; we prefer the following solution where we will contact the customer by phone and ask him/her to read the water meter. We will enter the data into the system. Other options to report a water meter reading are by phone at the free customer call line 800 292 400, electronically at nabidkasluzeb.smvak.cz and www.vodotech.cz or via our correspondence card inserted in the customers’ mailboxes. As a responsible employer, we must protect our employees against risks. We also want to accommodate the customers who – in the current sensitive times – may have negative feelings about any visitors in their households,” says Mr. Radek Kaňok, Manager of VodoTech.

In most cases, the water meters are read four times a year according to an approved schedule that the customers in the given area are informed about ahead of time.
