Mayors perceive positively SmVaK Ostrava’s work

Mayors of approximately forty municipalities where SmVaK Ostrava provides its water services have taken part in meetings that are organised each year by SmVaK Ostrava staff in water facilities in the Moravian-Silesian Region (Nový Jičín, Opava, Frýdek-Místek and Karviná).

The mayors listened to the Managing Director Anatol Pšenička who evaluated the year 2017 and described plans and visions for the next period. The Technical Director Martin Veselý introduced the investment strategy and plans for renewal of water infrastructure in next years. After discussions, those who were interested visited the biggest water treatment plant in Podhradí where the facilities and technologies have been considerably modernised in past three years, or the wastewater treatment plants in Karviná and Frýdek-Místek.

The mayors have spoken highly about positive changes in past three years. In particular, SmVaK Ostrava is more open now and communication with municipalities has improved. Representatives of the municipalities mentioned improved coordination of construction projects by both parties. This finally results in financial savings and less impacts on quality of life for people. In opinion of the mayors, SmVaK Ostrava has been listening to municipal requirements and has been able to find solutions to each-day issues that are acceptable for the both parties.

The key topic during debates was development of water infrastructure in locations where new houses should be built. The mayors wanted to know if SmVaK Ostrava were able to supply drinking water and to extend the sewage network even in those remote parts of towns.

Attention was also paid to legislative, in particular, to more strict rules that will be introduced for management of wastewater in locations without sewage systems where house owners have to use the centralised networks.
