The unique game about water comes back to schools

The inspiring game about importance of water for a man and nature, Tree of Life, was a great success in spring and now, in the new school year, it will be played in other grammar schools in the Moravian-Silesian Region.

Ostrava, 27 September 2016. Thanks to cooperation between Severomoravské vodovody a kanalizace Ostrava and experts specialised in interactive educational programmes, teenagers from fourteen  grammar schools in the Moravian-Silesian Region took part in spring in the educational programme: Tree of Life. As the pupils, teachers and representatives of the municipalities spoke highly about the programme, the game will be now played in other schools in the region.

This experience-based programme helped the children to understand importance of water for the living environment and for people. This is the first game in the Czech Republic to focus on water. The programme started in the mid of April in schools in the Opava region. In May and June the organisers moved to other regions (Nový Jičín and Frýdek-Místek).

In the new school year, children will play this games in other schools in Havířov, Ostrava and Frýdek-Místek regions.

The game of this type is unique because the children are actively involved in the game and because the emotional impact on the children is extensive - this is a difference against typical educational methods used so far in the Czech educational system. The game also develops soft skills such as communication, cooperation, or managing of certain problems in practical life. The game is intended for those who are between eleven and fifteen year old. It is not necessary for the children to leave their schools – the game is played in their school.

The programme takes four hours. It starts with preparation of the scene and creation of a special rather mysterious environment with mystic environments. Then, the children and animators learn the basic rules and goal of the game. Finally, the game is played. It includes practical experiments, dramatic plots, exciting story and authentic properties. Finally, the children strengthen and improve the acquired knowledge.
The goal is to stave off disaster in the world without water. The children will finally understand that water is an essential part of the life on the Earth and that rather cooperation, not competing among the teams, is needed to save the world.
“I am really happy that the game we have developed with experts specialised in this type of educational programmes has been welcomed. We care for the region where we operate. We think that it is really important to start talking with children in grammar schools about importance of water for people and nature and about responsible management of water sources.. We are happy that the schools, representatives of municipalities and those SmVaK’s employees who are parents wish that the programme could be performed in their schools", says Anatol Pšenička, Managing Director.
